Mark Making with Paint and Wood

I dipped an interesting piece of wood in to paint I rather like this effect.

This time I dragged the wood loaded with paint.

I tried to pour paint to emphasise the negative space, but the block was too porous and the bleed effect wasn't what I wanted so then I added more paint and dragged it across in sections, this is much more interesting.

Painting Experiments

I decided to experiment with the materiality of paint on breize block. I found that due to the porousness of the block thin paint just absorbed into it and the block tended to change the colour dramaticaly, so next I loaded the block and used it as a tool to paint with.

Initialy I kept one part of he block on the paper then moved it around to get this varied effect.

Large 3D

I have made a wire structure which is just under 2 meters high.It is constructed using wire to make the initial form, this needed some strenght as I enlarged the structure, so I filled the bottom with recycling paper then I started to cover the form with newsprint paper.

Lead Form

Delighted with the form lots to imagine from Dragon to Norse War Gods. Colour texture, and the colour continues to change.



Next Development using Lead

This process grew more exciting as I removed each stone from my structure the colours of the lead were different inside where it had reacted with the stone also the texture varied from very rough to beautifull smooth silver. I was inquizative to find out how much of the lead form would survive the removal.

Stone and Lead Sculpture experiment

I decided to make a form using rocks, once i was satisfied with the overall form I melted some lead in a pan outdoors for safety, having poured this over my rock form I was excited to see the texural interaction between the two materials. It is important to remember that lead can be poisonous so caution is need when using this process. It was fabulous to work with as it is plyable even when cold, so you can manipulate it to acheive varied forms.
