Finally minus the Wind and Rain

It was a sunny day so I decided to rethink, and paint on location, before the weather turned against me. While painting the landscape, I thought about the appropriation of the brief, so I took a photo of myself, in a pose that was reminiscent of Anselm Kieffer's Winter Landscape. By the time I had added the straw and sprayed it to achieve a positive and negative result, I felt the addition of some of the straw should stay. As it lends to the texture and process of the work.
Top is preliminary layer, then I tried to paint outside, started off ok, then the wind started getting up, so i had to add extra stones to hold down linen, but the wind kept gusting, no matter how determined I was, lesson to be learned, stop, as it doesn't work against the elements, gusting wind then rain to add to the mush, and then unsuccessful work. Painted over this one.
Top work was done on location, freezing , eaten by red ants, but still I found that I rather like working outside, but draw the line at getting soaked.

Life study using colour and tone.
I am interested in David Lilburn's mark making while walking around near Ballynahinch, I did the top work from the view of my local mountains.

I made these two collage pieces, the lower one I also worked into with charcoal.

Life painting using one colour and a credit card, to achieve various marks and tones. The top study concentrates on the negative spaces, while the bottom study is the positive spaces.

Our new project centres on appropriation. I have chosen to concentrate on landscapes. As there are wonderful ever changing views near where I live, I decide to feature the mountains. Above are some initail sketches.
